Μια συνολική παρουσία 20 ετών, 4 μεθοδικά σχεδιασμένες κυκλοφορίες και μια ακόμα στα σκαριά, ουκ ολίγα σημαντικά live shows και συνεπής στάση. Αυτή θα μπορούσε να ήταν η συντομότερη εκδοχή της πορείας των Agnes Vein και θα περιέκλειε την περισσότερη ουσία.

Σίγουρα όμως υπάρχει περισσότερη ιστορία πίσω από αυτό, άσχετα αν πίσω στο 2004 ίσως δε θα μπορούσε κάποιος να δει μακριά. Το doom/black τρίο κυκλοφορούσε το “…Of Chaos And Law” EP βάζοντας τις βάσεις και ξεκινώντας τις live εμφανίσεις του δίπλα στους Manilla Road και Brocas Helm.

Ένα από τα βασικά γνωρίσματα του σχήματος αυτού, τόσο στη μουσική, όσο και στο modus operandi ήταν πάντα τα αργά και σίγουρα πατήματα, οπότε δε θα έπρεπε να κάνει εντύπωση ότι η χρονιά έφτασε να είναι το 2010 όταν σε συνεργασία με τη Venerate Industries είχαν έτοιμο για κυκλοφορία το “Duality” ντεμπούτο τους. Το ύφος είχε πλέον εδραιωθεί, οι επιρροές από Bathory, Candlemass, Neurosis και Celtic Frost ήταν διακριτικά εμφανείς και τα live shows διαφοροποιήθηκαν όσον αφορά τους συνεμφανιζόμενους, καθώς ήταν η σειρά των Rotting Christ, Primordial και Electric Wizard να τους φιλοξενήσουν στις συναυλίες τους.

Το “Soulship” θα ήταν το επόμενο βήμα, με έναν πιο σκοτεινό και πειραματικό χαρακτήρα, ήρθε το 2013, διεύρυνε τη βάση των οπαδών, έφερε ένα σημαντικό milestone που ήταν η support εμφάνιση στους Neurosis, αλλά και αποτέλεσε την αρχή μιας ανάπαυλας διαρκείας, όπου το σχήμα αντιμετώπισε εσωτερικά προβλήματα και κατέβασε ταχύτητες, χωρίς όμως να σταματήσει να προετοιμάζει την επόμενη του κίνηση.

7 χρόνια μετά, το επερχόμενο album έχει ετοιμαστεί, το 2021 θα είναι η χρονιά της επιστροφής τους και το επόμενο κεφάλαιο είναι έτοιμο να γραφτεί.

Agnes Vein, one of Greece’s most prominent underground bands have found themselves in yet another crossroad, amidst one of the most endearing times in recent history.

One could argue this is not the first time the seasoned doom/black metal band from Thessaloniki has come up against a tough situation. Ever since the “…Of Chaos And Law” EP appeared in 2004 and the long line of live shows and releases started to unravel, the road hasn’t always been favorable. Unlike most young bands, they took the time necessary to prepare and release their debut album “Duality”, making sure that the experience from sharing the stage with Manilla Road and Brocas Helm among others could leave a scar on the process.

The refined brewing process that is the preparation for an Agnes Vein album took another 3 years, without any shortcuts and by the spring of 2013, “Soulship” came to define again the status of the band, driven by a much darker and experimental mood. The slow, heavy and bleak sentiment of the record wore off on the whole band’s existence and in the years that followed the struggles would mount up.

A line-up change, endless friction of matured influences and a deep consideration marked the new era, that was also highlighted by a number of headline shows as well as joined appearances with Neurosis and Mantar. The most recent chapter in the story has shaped out to be the longest one, with album adjustments taking up to 7 years, bringing the sound closer to undefined dark soundscapes and sardonic instrumentation.
